Great last minute gift ideas from the Handmade Detroit blog

Andrew Norton

A great blog for crafters here in Michigan (especially in the Detroit area) is Handmade Detroit. They are right in the middle of their 12 days of free Christmas projects. They featured some handmade gift tags the other day. Do yourself a favor and check out this really well put together blog that shows the creativity of people in the craft scene on the east side of the mitten.

Why sending our Michigan Gift Baskets is a good thing

Andrew Norton

With only 1 Week remaining (for standard shipping) until the Christmas shipping deadline I thought I would catch my breath a moment between filling gift basket orders and give the Top Five Reasons for sending our Michigan Gift Baskets at Christmas and throughout the year -

  1. Give a gift that gives back all year long. We donate 1% of each sale to the Food Bank Council of Michigan and they sorely need the help with Michigan's economy still going poorly.
  2. Who likes wrapping presents? We can take care of the wrapping and shipping for you.
  3. 3 Day Shipping starts at $8.95. Great price for a quick trip on everything you ship.
  4. Unique gourmet Michigan products and our flagship Michigan Crates will be more memorable than the plaid socks you got your dad last Christmas.
  5. We enclose a gift card at no additional cost in each gift basket. You would be surprised how many gift basket companies charge extra for this service.

PS A great gift idea for families, clients, or just your run of the mill sweet tooth is the Staff Favorites Gift Box.

Snow worries, Michigan's snow-related attractions are open for business

Andrew Norton

Winter-related businesses in Michigan are enjoying the snow and cold we have had as of late. Ski resorts across Michigan have been able to pump out snow to help add to what comes down naturally and snowmobilers across the U.P. have the chance to get their sleds out before Christmas for the first time in a couple of years. This is great news for the many Michigan businesses who depend on cold and snow as a major part of their income. Michigan's economy can use all the help it can get these days so it's nice to see a good start to Michigan's winter tourism industry which has suffered the past few years due to warm temps and a lack of snow.

New website touting Michigan products and services

Andrew Norton

BuyMichiganNow.com recently launched to help promote Michigan and the number of products that are made and grown here. They have a petition you can sign to -

play an active role in building a strong, vibrant, and diverse Michigan economy. I will be a part of the solution by speaking positively about the state, learning about our products and services, and making a concerted effort to buy from Michigan businesses. I will Think Michigan First!

I found out about this new website from another Pro-Michigan site we support - BuyMichiganProducts.com. When I checked out the Holiday Christmas Shopping Guide from BuyMichiganNow.com I noticed that Gift Baskets From Michigan LLC was lucky enough to be mentioned as one of the places to get your Michigan gift baskets. Cool.

According to the feature run on Fox 2 Detroit - Lisa Diggs, founder of BuyMichiganNow.com, "hopes 5,000 people will take the pledge by Dec. 31." I signed it and was Number 620. I hope that folks take notice and check it out.
