Remembering Bo Schembechler

Andrew Norton

One year ago tomorrow, Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler passed away. It was Friday November 17, 2006. What was the significance of him dying on Friday, November 17, 2006? Oh, it was merely the day before one of the biggest University of Michigan and Ohio State University football games in the history of the rivalry. #2 Michigan was playing at #1 Ohio State with the Big 10 Title and a date with the National Championship game on the line.

Bo had been battling heart disease since 1969 when he had his first heart attack on the eve of his first trip to the Rose Bowl. He wanted so badly to see the "Big Game" last year and even though he is gone his presence will still be felt tomorrow when U of M and OSU battle it out for the Big Ten title.

I was inspired to build a Squidoo lens on Bo Schembechler. It features some classic videos of Bo Schembechler speaches, interviews, and his football teams. You can read some Bo Schembechler quotes and leave your thoughts on the man.

Buy your Christmas gift baskets now - we'll ship them Dec. 18th

Andrew Norton

We added this feature to our store last year and it was met with great success. A lot of folks took advantage of purchasing their Christmas gift baskets early and choosing the option to ship them closer to Christmas. We are offering this feature once again. Starting today, you can place your orders for Christmas and when you check out there is an option to have us wait and ship them on December 18th. This will give your orders plenty of time to arrive at their destinations by Christmas.

Christmas Shipping Option

The benefit to you is you don't have to wait until later to order your gifts. Order now with the knowledge that you can cross a few people off of your list and we'll send you the tracking information on December 18th so you can "watch" your gift basket(s) arrive at the recipient's door.

Our Christmas-themed gift baskets will be up by the end of the week so be sure to come back and check out what we have to offer this year. We have quite a few new treats for you this year and we can't wait to share!

Good luck to the little guy

Conga Coffee in Mt. Clemens has been given notice by Starbucks that the Conga Coffee sign "bears a striking resemblance" to the Starbucks logo. While the Conga Coffee sign is round and a shade of green there doesn't really (in my opinion) appear to be a strong resemblance. If I were driving by the shop I would not look at the Conga Coffee sign and pull into the parking lot thinking I was at Starbucks. This appears to be another case of a company with a lot of money and feisty lawyers. Good luck to Conga Coffee!

My favorite quote from the Detroit Free Press article -

Dregiewicz said Starbucks' worries that he is trying to emulate the chain are ironic."Our customers hate their coffee," said Dregiewicz, 51, who has owned the 11-year-old Mt. Clemens Conga since February.

It's election day!

Andrew Norton

Yes! Not only do we get to exercise our right to vote, but we can quit seeing all of the campaign ads on television. Seriously, there are a lot of important issues on the ballot around here and across the state. Schools need to make improvements, and officials need to be elected.

The changes that autumn brings

Andrew Norton

I really enjoyed this brief narrative that was on the back of our church bulletin yesterday. I thought I would share it here -

IN Ecclesiastes 3:1 we read, There is a . . . season for every activity under heaven (NIV). A lone dove eats beneath the feeder; close in, the grass is green and needs mowing. The trees are dripping; the sun is bright, misleading of its warmth. Beneath the fence a still blanket of pale green frost stretches. A trio of crows crosses it. It turned cold overnight; our neighbor's once green corn is now brown. A cardinal acts as if nothing miraculous were happening. This is the second night of autumn; the third day. The land gets ready for sleep.
