The Kalamazoo Gazette is reporting a large marijuana bust in Cass County in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The circumstances leading to this large drug bust are what makes me smile. A 60 year old resident of Calvin Township called the sheriff's department to report a home invasion. The armed suspects had bound her hands and feet while pointing a gun at her. The woman's 63 year old boyfriend was found by deputies in a similar fashion out in the barn.

During the course of searching for the suspects a large marijuana growing operation was discovered in another building on the property.

Police found more than 500 growing marijuana plants, a large amount of processed marijuana, a “highly technical” electronic lighting and heating system, and loaded weapons.

The suspects who tied the couple up made off with "valuable items" and cash. Any guesses as to what the "valuable items" were? Note to processors, sellers, and growers of marijuana:

If someone breaks into your home and steals "valuable items" and cash or anything for that matter - remember to weigh the consequences of calling that in to the police.

They call that - police work made easy. :)

I can say with some certainty that this was probably the last thing that Mark Hunter expected when he sat down to watch some television. While sitting in his living room watching television, two thieves entered Hunter's home through a sliding glass door and stole his flat-screen television. Hunter watched, dumbfounded at the thieves boldness, helplessly as he was outnumbered by the brazen duo. The theft was later reported by Hunter when he recognized one of the alleged crooks, Shawn Robert Kimbrough, on the news (presumably on another television he owns).

Don't you love that you must still refer to thieves as "alleged" even though you have eyewitnesses catching them in the act of the theft and matching serial numbers on the "allegedly" stolen television found at the "alleged" thieves' apartment that tie it to the "alleged" crime?

From the Traverse City Record Eagle -

Kimbrough was out on bond for home invasion, felonious assault and possession of a Taser when the second home invasion charge was filed. Kimbrough was charged with the first three felonies when he allegedly broke into his neighbor's apartment on Oct. 12.

Kimbrough is only 19 and did not appear to have a very good October. Hope November turns out better for him.

The Traverse City Record Eagle reports of a man stealing an off-road vehicle and then the gas to keep it running. The man was reported by a gas station attendant in Mesick when he drove off without paying for the gas he put in the ORV. He was picked up by police a short time later.

Note to stupid crooks: When you steal a vehicle either check to make sure it has plenty of gas or pay for gas to avoid further suspicion and get caught because you stole gas in addition to the vehicle.
