Residents Continue to Leave Michigan

Andrew Norton

Nearly 48,000 more people left Michigan than moved here from July 2004 to July 2005. The people leaving are no longer young people fresh out of college, but those that have been laid off or had their companies shut down. Michigan is not the leader in having residents migrating out of the state. California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York all had more people leave their states than move in and in greater numbers than those who left Michigan.

Exodus from Michigan continues-Economy, joblessness cited as reasons residents, especially younger folks, seek greener pastures.

BS General Store in Kenton, MI

Andrew Norton

There is a new general store in the Upper Peninsula town of Kenton. BS General Store has a new 1700 square foot facility and a catchy name that folks won't forget. The store will be mainly for hunters, campers, and fishermen. The name 'BS General Store' comes from Don "Birdeye" and Shirley Wittingen. The retired couple from Grand Rapids wanted a name that "nobody could forget." I don't think that will be a problem :).
