Fall at Bond Falls

Fall at Bond Falls, originally uploaded by mm.northwoods.

I am loving the wonderful photos from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this fall. Much of the U.P. will see peak color this weekend so don’t delay in heading on up for a color tour.

Just Beautiful.

Michigan Fall Colors

A lot of folks have been coming and reading my recent post about taking a Michigan Fall Color Tour. I felt that it was only fair to at least post one of the many beautiful photos of some Michigan fall colors. Enjoy!

While I was uploading photos to the All Things Michigan photostream at flickr.com yesterday I came across some wonderful Michigan photo groups. One such group was the Michigan Oddities group.
Here are some of the gems in this delightfully odd group:

Domke’s Dinosaur Gardens
A number of giant Paul Bunyan statues
The world’s largest weather vane

Forest Fire, originally uploaded by tamdotcom.

The Upper Peninsula forest fire has now claimed 16,000 acres which is only about 10% contained as of last night. This photo was taken from Mackinaw City and you can see the smoke from the forest fire highlighted in the sunset.

Michigan residents as far south as Petoskey could see and smell the smoke generated by the blaze.

Seen Many Springs

Normally we all fight the infestation of dandelions in our yards. This photo celebrates the beauty of dandelions with the neat old shed as a backdrop.

Too cool.

Lake Superior, originally uploaded by Jim’s outside photos.

I came across this photo the other day at flickr.com and knew I wanted to share it here.

I love the pleasant blue sky backdrop with the jagged chunks of ice thrust upon the shore and the barren and rugged hillside. It really gives a good picture of how wild the winter weather can be in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Anyone know where this was taken?

Hillside in October, originally uploaded by CaptPiper.

Well, despite waking up to a light dusting of snow on the leaves that were knocked off of the trees by the wind and rain yesterday I am still in a fall state of mind. I really like the red of the barn contrasted with the bright orange leaves in the background.

I guess I am just a sucker for great barn pictures, especially those in the fall with the great Michigan color display.

Our son was quite excited about the splash of white that dusted the leaves in our yard. I would rather we continue the fall weather and put winter back on the shelf until it is a bit closer to Christmas.

Wrath of Zues, originally uploaded by Freddie jr.

Wow! I love the deep blue sky contrasted with the silver hue of the lightning. This guy takes some wonderful nighttime photos.

I looked up pictures of lightning on flickr.com in light of the storms that passed through here this week and slowed things down for a bit.

DSC_2483, originally uploaded by pfilias.

When my wife and I honeymooned on Mackinac Island it was shrouded in a chilly blanket of fog for a couple of the days we were there. This photo reminds me of that. I love that it is in black and white.

With the wall of fog surrounding the island it muffled the sounds of horse hooves upon the pavement and gave a surreal sense of peaceful isolation. The Mackinac Bridge and the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan were not visible. With no vehicles and no way to see the outside modern world it felt like we had slipped back in time for those few days.

It is funny how one picture can bring back so many wonderful memories.
