Sturgis Company Exporting Products to Mexico

by admin on February 21, 2006

All too often (especially here in Michigan) we hear about jobs being exported to Mexico.  Penguin LLC in Sturgis has been exporting office desks and cabinets to Mexico for the past three years.  So, how do they remain in Michigan and export products instead of jobs to Mexico?

“The strategy of our entire business is to design and market products where labor content is less than logical cost from Mexico and China,” said  Richard Gilbert, president of Iceberg Enterprises LLC, the parent company of Penguin LLC.  Basically, what he is saying is that they have found a way to produce their products cheaper (or at least more competitive) than if the products were actually produced in Mexico.  The firm currently employs around 200 in Sturgis.
