Over the weekend we visited the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association Antique Tractor and Engine Show held on their show grounds at Boot Hill Ranch near Jones, Michigan. I grew up not far from Boot Hill Ranch and have fond memories of attending shows in my younger years.
This year’s show featured Case tractors [...]

I found this video of Tiger Stadium’s demolition on YouTube this afternoon. I don’t mean to be so heavy these days on the demolition of Tiger Stadium, but it’s not everyday that a historic Michigan structure with so many fans is ripped down.

This was recorded by someone from www.BuildingsofDetroit.com.

Paradise, Michigan shows how to finish off a fireworks display in this video taken from the 2007 fireworks show. For those of you who cannot wait for your local displays tonight - here’s a little taste.

Happy 4th of July!

Greensky Bluegrass got their start in the Kalamazoo area back in 2000. The members are - Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Devol(bass), and Paul Hoffman (mandolin).

I first stumbled upon Greensky Bluegrass while searching for Bluegrass music at internetarchive.org. There is a good amount of live recordings from various Greensky Bluegrass concerts available. My current favorite is the December 2006 performance at the Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, Michigan.

I found this old footage of the J.L. Hudson Thanksgiving Day Parade on YouTube a few weeks ago. I’m not sure how it was that I stumbled upon it, but I thought it was a neat peak at Detroit’s past.

The Ada Witch

Happy Halloween! Enjoy this tale from Ada, Michigan about the Ada Witch. I came across it at a Squidoo page (not one of mine ) called - Halloween Ghost Stories. You might want to check that site out as there are plenty of kid-friendly stories too.

Yesterday I posted pictures of the new mural painted in downtown Constantine. Since then I have put together a little (only 5 seconds) animation showing present day downtown Constantine morph into the older downtown depicted in the mural. I think it’s kind of neat.

Watch it here if the video player does not appear.

Anyone familiar with the Academy Award nominated film, Anatomy of a Murder, knows that it was filmed in the U.P. The movie is based on a true story that was turned into a novel written by former Michigan Supreme Court justice, John Voelker. Courtroom scenes for the movie were filmed in the [...]

I love this old 8mm film of someone crossing the Mackinac Bridge in 1958. Not much has changed since then. About halfway across the bridge you even get to see Michigan’s unofficial state flower - the orange traffic barrel. It’s an authentic steel drum painted orange - not one of those plastic [...]

This interesting video of a dive in the St. Clair river near Marine City shows what happens to divers when a freighter passes directly over them. Everything is calm and clear and the divers are exploring a shipwreck.
Then a freighter passes over them.
Turn your volume up and check it out -

If the player [...]
