I love this picture! It’s reproduced from a slide that was taken in 1963. Since the day is winding it’s way down and it being Friday and all I thought this was an appropriate (an beautiful) shot to close out the week.
Have a Great Weekend!

0 Comments Published August 14th, 2008 in Michigan PhotosWhile I was uploading photos to the All Things Michigan photostream at flickr.com yesterday I came across some wonderful Michigan photo groups. One such group was the Michigan Oddities group.
Here are some of the gems in this delightfully odd group:
Domke’s Dinosaur Gardens
A number of giant Paul Bunyan statues
The world’s largest weather vane

This is a great shot of the limestone cliffs you will see at Fayette Historic State Park. This “ghost town” offers a look at the early years of iron smelting operations in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Hockey players have fire in their hearts and ice in their veins., originally uploaded by KT of Lake Orion.
This is from the Detroit News. Last night the Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 to win the Stanley Cup. I’m still short on sleep after watching their 3 Overtime loss Monday night.
Tons of fun and another championship for the city of Detroit.

This photo (and blog post) is titled ‘The Things They Carried’ as that is what popped in my head when I saw this mother/soldier marching in the parade. I have read Tim O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried” which deals with the mental and emotional aspects of war and immediately thought that this photo illustrates just that both metaphorically and physically.
She is surrounded by the things she carried.
God Bless our Veterans and current service men and women. Thank you for all that you do.

Wow. I am eagerly anticipating the fall colors this year and just had to post this picture from somewhere in Michigan’s U.P. The mist rising off of the lake blurs the palette of color on the left and sharpens as the eye travels left to right.
The reflection of the colors in the water top things off and make it a definite favorite of mine. Bring on the fall color!
