Gov. Granholm proposing funding cuts for the State Fair and the arts

This article in the Detroit News is reporting that in order to help balance our state budget, Gov. Granholm is looking to cut funding for both the Upper and Lower Peninsula State Fairs as well as the Department of History, Arts and Libraries.

During her State if the State message, Governor Granholm announced a number of new jobs and and ambitious development proposals in the film industry. How will the State of Michigan train a workforce to take these jobs––or attract and retain creative people to fill them––if, as her press spokesmen said yesterday in announcing the elimination of the Department of History, Arts and Libraries, “The arts are not a priority” in Michigan?
